Don't Say A Word Movie: A Sound: A Picture: A Reviewed By: David 20th Century Fox and Director Gary Fleder team up to bring you "Don't Say A Word". Michael Douglas is "tremendous" (Tribune News Services). When the daughter of a prominent New York psychiatrist (Douglas) is kidnapped, his only hope for her safe return is to pry a 6-digit number from the memory of a troubled teenage girl - and time is running out! "Dont Say A Word" is a thriller thats aimed at freaking out parents. Nathan Conrad (Michael Douglas) is a New York City psychiatrist whose Thanksgiving Eve is interrupted by a call from a colleague (Oliver Platt) asking him to immediately see a particularly troubled young patient. The 18-year old girl has gone from catatonic to pretty violent and she appears to have a secret that shes not willing to share to anyone. This is where Conrad and the movie's plot first meet. A band of vicious robbers has arranged for Conrad to get this call in hopes that he will extract the girls secret which is the key to recovering a $10 million jewel left behind when the gang members were sent to prison ten years earlier after a double cross. The guys are now fresh out of prison and they are intent on finding the jewel. They figure Conrad can help them so they snatch up his eight year old daughter, set up an elaborate monitoring system to keep tabs on Conrad and offering Conrads daughter in exchange for the number.
In a race against time and unable to call for outside help, Conrad and
his bed ridden wife (Famke Janssen) struggle to get back their daughter.
Since Jessie has been kidnapped and he wants her back he will have to
go back to Elisabeth (Brittany Murphy) and extract a piece of information
from her mind and he gives the doctor one day to retrieve the number
or she will be killed. But, she guards this information with her life
and with only a short number of hours of time to work with, it will
be next to impossible to do so. What is important about this information
is that these men would kill to access it and this girl would die to
keep it a secret.
The performances distract the viewer from the plot holes that only become apparent after the closing credits are given. We are expected to believe that in the middle of the night not only did the kidnappers manage to break in to the Conrad apartment and take Jessie, but they were able to install alot of monitoring equipment in all the rooms including the master bedroom. Boy, the Conrads must be pretty heavy sleepers I must say. There are other plot flaws but I will not mention them because I will reveal too much and I don't want to spoil anything. "Don't Say A Word" stands up above the rest and is recommended to anyone with even a alittle interest. Click here to purchase this movie from our DVD store.
