Artisan

Kill Your Neighbor's Dog".
The
First thing I need to say about HTKYND is that it's surprisingly refreshing.
I found myself not wanting to like this movie at first, but couldn't
help to like it after the first 10 minutes
Movie: B
It's not a normal comedy by any means, it's more of an ironic film.
It's about a playwright, named Peter McGowen. Peter's been having a
few problems lately and tries to deal with each of them in a unique
way, that produces quite different results than he expected. Besides
trying to conceive a child with his wife, his neighbor's have a new
dog; driving Peter crazy with it's constant barking at night. Combine
this with having to cope with his other neighbor's daughter constantly
hanging around, and his own personal stalker arriving on the block;
and then even his success starts to fleet away. Poor Peter. There is
some weak acting, but it's mostly by the supporting cast and doesn't
really detract from the film much. It's just the ironic parts of the
film that set it apart. The way everything resolves itself in the end
was completely unexpected, and it goes to show that Hollywood still
has some originality left. The film does move slowly at some points
though, but not enough to make me lose interest.
Sound: B+
It sounds nice, and why shouldn't it? The only gripe I have with the
soundtrack is that the music isn't really my thing. The slow and melodic
stuff is alright, but not up my alley. Other than that, the sound shines
like a new grill on a car. Everything sounds as it should, and that's
what really matters to most people anyways. Dialogue cuts through the
background and the mix is very good. But if you can't get into the music,
it doesn't matter too much.
Picture: A
Crystal clear, like one of the few un-contaminated rivers we still have
left. The colors do not bleed, and the brights and darks are right.
This is how all videos should look. Everything is crisp and very sharp.
There were no parts that seemed to get too dark or too bright. It seems
a lot of time was put into the picture quality on this movie. Bar none,
they got the picture perfect.
Alltogether, I found myself enjoying this movie quite a bit. If you
like to laugh at the somewhat cruel things life can do to a person,
then I'd definately tell you to see this movie. If you take life too
seriously though, this movie may have too much sadistic (not too bad,
though) irony for your tastes. It reminds me of my own life sometimes
and that is what draws me to it, I guess.
Let me close with this thought. If you get a good laugh at how mundane
and silly life can be at times, you'll like HTKYND.
