Artisan Entertainment presents a documentary directed by Chris Hegedus and Jehane Noujaim.

It started off like a great idea at the time. They'd build a website where people could go and pay their parking tickets online. Startup.com tells the story of two longtime best friends who went into business together and created a Web site hoping to raise millions of dollars. In which they hoped at one point that they will be worth $12 million dollars apiece. And by the end of their adventure they have lost everything.

The friends are named Kaleil Isaza Tuzman and Tom Herman. Their idea is so compelling that Tuzman quits his job at Goldman Sachs to move to the Internet dot com business. All this starts in May 1999 when instant Web millionaires were a dime a dozen, and ends in January 2001. As an inside view of the bursting of the Internet bubble Startup.com is definitive.

In just a few months their little company has gone from eight employees using laptops sitting on dining room chairs to 233 workers in a Manhattan New York office funded by more than $100 million dollars from some investors.

Unless you have been living in another planet you probably can guess what will happen next. The floor drops out of the dot com economy and their website govworks.com explodes. But as their world falls apart on them, and with all the problems they have Tom and Kaleil have problems in their friendship also that forms because of their totally different views to the business world and life.

Watching this movie Startup.com was kinda like watching a horror flick even without knowing anything about the website that was being created. You have to know that it's going to get pretty nasty.

The directors Hegedus and Noujaim do a wonderful job of capturing all the personalities and how they cope with all the incredible stress that comes with creating a multi million dollar company and all the stress of having everything fall apart.

Hegedus and Noujaim do find something pretty funny that when only a few hours before the website will be going live they discover that their search engine is nothing but useless to them as when someone types in pay parking tickets and what comes up is municipal employees with the last name Park.

This movie was directed by Chris Hegedus who previously directed an Oscar nominated documentary The War Room in which he tracked Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign. Jehane Noujaim was a former producer at MTV and left to create Noujaim Films. Her first project was to produce and direct Startup.com. Startup.com documents the efforts of two men who were on the top of the world and then fell.

CEO Kaleil Isaza Tuzman speaks on CNN about his new company and its $50 million worth in Startup.com.

I would recommend this movie to anyone especially those interested in the world of the Internet era. Click here to buy this movie.
