FlixMix
brings you "Ultimate Fights".
Do
you like to see fists and bullets fly? Do you get a rush out of seeing
non-stop action that keeps you glued to the screen? Then this is definately
a DVD to check out. A compilation of 16 fight scenes from various movies
(Snatch, Gladiator, Crouching Tiger, Blade, etc.), "Ultimate
Fights" does an excellent job at providing plenty of action
to keep almost anybody entertained all the way through. While the case
says "The Most Intense Fights Ever"; there are a few I disagree
with that shouldn't really have been included. I say that about Rambo
especially, only because it lacks a lot of the action that the other
sequences implore. Other than that small gripe, I can say that this
DVD is pretty good, but you'll have to read on the get the entire scoop.
Movie: A
"Ultimate Fights" promises to be a total action experience.
And this movie makes good on its promise to provide a plethora of punches
and pain as you'll witness 16 fights from all types of movies. Some
fights I've never seen before, and others were old favorites that made
my blood flow fast. Packed to the gills with extras; like 2 commentaries
that reveal many of the secrets and techniques about the fight sequences,
and FlixFacts trivia that is very informative while not being too geeky
or technical. Add to that Fight Stats, profiles, a Name that Frame game,
and a featurette on how to make your own fight scenes; and you have
a ton of entertainment. There are also a few DVD-ROM features that include
a short but fun trivia game and some downloadable sounds. I didn't care
for the Rumble Party mix though. It's just that techno music isn't for
me and after a while it gets repetitive and boring. Maybe it's just
not my thing, but it doesn't add much like some of the other extras.
Sound: A -
As I said above, my main complaint with the sound is the Ultimate Rumble
Mix track on the DVD. I think it detracts from the fights by removing
the sound effects, because that helps add so much to the action on the
screen. Even if they mixed up the music a little, it would've been less
annoying; but I'm just not the type for techno. Other than that the
sound is good in most places. For some movies, though, it is a bit on
the fuzzy side. This is most likely due to the fact that this is a compilation
and there were many different sources, and they vary in quality. But
for the most part the audio is on spot, and everything sounds fine.
The commentary tracks on the DVD are very full of extra info and I found
them entertaining as well.
Picture: B -
If you wonder why I gave the picture a B -, it's only because of the
quality being of various quality. Im some scenes it looks spectacular,
and in others (Scarface is the best example) is very grainy and scratched.
It's hard to fault FlixMix for that, but they should at least try to
find some better quality originals to transfer to DVD. I know with it
being a compilation thought, that this is expected so it doesn't bother
me too much. Othan that a few shabby looking scenes most look like they
were taken directly from their respected DVD's and it shows as the picture
is very good in most places No fading for the most part and sharp borders
and colors as well for the majority of the fights. But like I said,
I just had to point out the few places where the picture could definately
have been much better.
As I said before, I really did enjoy this DVD. The extras alone warrant
its purchase as it will keep you busy for quite a while. I loved the
Boogeymen DVD, and the same applies for Ultimate Fights. They seemed
to be able to mix up the action while keeping it coming fast enough
for it to never get bogged down or too boring. It definately looks like
they spent a lot of time putting together all of the content on this
disc, and I recommend it to any action movie fan. Or for that matter,
I would recommend it to anybody who just wants to kill an hour with
an entertaining diversion. It's great as a rental (for it being quite
short) but also great to own due to the extras that'll keep you occupied
for quite a while. If you liked Boogeymen like I did, then you must
pick this up as well.
