MGM and Director Sam Weisman team up to bring you "What's The Worst That Could Happen".

Possession may be 9/10 of the law… but payback is everything to the lawless. Martin Lawrence and Danny DeVito escalate a battle of egos - and a battalion of laughs - to epic proportions in this fast-paced joke-fest that takes low-down behavior to hilarious new heights! Co-starring John Leguizamo (Moulin Rouge), Glenne Headly (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), William Fichtner (Pearl Harbor), Bernie Mac (The Original Kings of Comedy), Carmen Ejogo (The Avengers), Larry Miller (The Nutty Professor II) and Nora Dunn (Three Kings), this laugh-out-loud comedy proves that "the worst that could happen is missing this film" (Jeffrey Lyons)!

The opening moments actually set us up for something completely different. A Martin Lawrence movie that lets the comedian play a character, rather than a variation on his sitcom and stand up personas. Kevin Caffery comes off as smooth but sensitive operator, a sophisticated thief at home in a highfalutin auction house. That's where he meets a beauty (Carmen Ejogo), who's distraught that her heirloom painting is up for sale. Touched by her plight, he steals the thing back for her and wins her heart.

So she gives him a lucky ring, which he naturally wears to his next break in. But his prey, sleazy media tycoon Max Fairbanks (Danny DeVito) turns the tables by calling the cops and stealing the ring off Kevin's finger. And that's when anarchy begins its reign. Kevin assembles his unofficial family of fellow thieves and computer hackers to follow Max's every move and make his life a hell on earth. The balance of the movie consists of Kevin and Max taking turns zapping each other for the thrill of the sport as the story devolves into a series of wacky set pieces.

This is the sort of movie that uses yards of confusing plot (Max is facing bankruptcy and trying to hold on to his media outlets) to serve as a shaky clothesline on which to hang comic bits and characters. But mostly the cast is hung out to dry by director Sam Weisman ("George of the Jungle").

DeVito has played this part lots of times before and to his credit, he attacks Max with his usual bulldog ferocity, even if the de rigeur PG-13 rating requires Max to swear like a teenage boy when Kevin calls him via cell phone during a Senate hearing which causes Max to unleash a stream of expletives. The television camera bleeps it all out, but the sign language translator relishes her big opportunity to ad lib with some obvious but nonetheless hilarious gestures.

Martin Lawrence is a good deal more subdued than usual, which is a good thing, and Danny DeVito is affably sleazy, as always. Most of the actual entertainment in the film, however, comes from the supporting cast: William Fichtner as a fey police detective who dresses like Truman Capote; Bernie Mac as Kevin's uncle and mentor; Siobhan Fallon as the magician's wife; Nora Dunn as Lutetia; Glenne Headly as Max's long-suffering personal assistant; Larry Miller as Max's bodyguard.

"What's The Worst That Could Happen"? runs 1:35. It is rated PG-13 for language and sexual content
